about foreign policy issues but the timing is critical now after the strong debate performance and the final month the campaign says they believe what the independent eyeballs focusing on this. as you noted, trying to demonstrate that peace through strength and effectively accuse the president of being a weak leader who has been bad for the military of this country. among some of the comments are the following. i know the president hopes for a safer, freer and more prosperous middle east allied with the united states. i share that hope but hope is not a strategy. there will also be familiar themes that we expect to hear here. the significance of avoiding defense cuts, specifically referring to sequestration and could affect tens of thousands of people here in virginia specifically. the need to reinvest in the military and the significance of working closely with america's allies. a lot of these contrasts rhetorical more than actual contrasts and witness. he's been vague as some noticed about policy differences with the president but one place where he'll show a difference is on

and earth and spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person. his weakness on foreign policy has just gotten worse. today, for example, romney gave a speech trying to sell himself as incredible commander in chief but his list of missteps is unprecedented. his disstrous british trip. he was labeled "mitt the twit," calling the operation that led to gadhafi's death a mission trip and never mind the cold war is over. maybe we wouldn't -- shouldn't be surprised that his foreign policy agenda is a mess. his team includes over a dozen former advisers to president bush. in fact, bush's defense secretary, donald rumsfeld, called romney's speef, terrific, comprehensive speech. our latest poll shows that america's people don't buy romney as commander in chief. he trails the president on that 47 to 39%. and he trails the president by 6% on foreign policy. for decades, republicans have had the edge over democrats when it comes to national security but thanks to this president's strength and romney's weakness, that trend is over. joining me now is richard wolffe, vice president and execut

on foreign policy at that speech at the virginia military institute here in lexington later on this morning. and the campaign did release some excerpts from the speech that we could look at to sort of see where he might be going with this address later on this morning. a few things to point out, carol. he's going to be going after the president as you mentioned just a few moments ago on those diplomatic attacks in benghazi, libya. he's going to be talking about that attack as the work of al qaeda, saying that that was likely the work of the same forces that attacked the united states on september 11th. now, a few other things he's going to be talking about. he's going to be calling for new sanctions, stronger sanctions against the government in iran to prevent that country from developing nuclear weapons. he's also going to be talking about arming the syrian rebels. lastly, carol, as part of his remarks that were releasted by the campaign, interesting to note that he is also going to be calling for a prosperous state of palestine to stand side by side with the state of israel. that's a very

the basic eye test on foreign policy for a vice presidential nominee. i think that biden, look, there has been so much out there that paul ryan will wipe the floor with biden, i think that the expectations game has shifted in the obama-biden cam favor particularly after mitt romney's strong performance last wednesday. the only thing i am worried about from the perspective of joe biden and what democrats should be anxious over in my view is if joe biden has red enough of the press where people are expecting him to get clobbered and maybe he is feeling more pressure since the president performs so poorly last week. maybe he feels like he has to bone up and do it himself. when he gets emotional or angry his mouth does things that really hurt. >> a couple the last few weeks there have been a couple of gaffes from joe biden. maybe there is desperation in the campaigning saying we are spending hundreds of millions. there is some pressure here on represent biden. i think that the expectations are so low for him because of his gaffe reputation, people could underestimate him a little bit. paul ry
